Rituals: in conversation with pharmaceutical scientist, Hannah English
We’d love for you to share the rituals that you use to enrich your life?
"Self care for me is the little things - remembering to take my medication and put on sunscreen daily, having weekly downtime to just unplug and fill my mind with creative work from the best - magazines, documentaries, art galleries, books. I'm also quite partial to a long bath, to saying 'no,' and to speaking up if I’m uncomfortable. Boundaries are self care."We are dying to know, what does your daily skin care routine look like and how does FOREO fit into this?
My AM Routine:- Cream cleanser, right now I’m using Biologique Recherche Lait U,
- Then I use BEAR, which is helping lift but also helping to relax muscle tension I carry in my face!
- Skinceuticals Phyto Corrective Mist, for redness,
- Murad Vita-C Eye Cream
- Elizabeth Arden Prevage 2.0 Antioxidant Serum
- Glow Recipe Banana Souffle Moisture Cream,
- And whichever SPF I’m testing. I test a lot.
- Oil Cleanse, I’m enjoying the Biossance Jelly Cleanser for this step
- Then if I need a good pore clear-out, I use the LUNA Mini 3 for my second cleanse, with the Biologique Recherche
- Kate Somerville Kateceuticals Lifting Eye Cream
- La Clinica Level 2 Pigment Serum
- La Roche-Posay Cicaplast B5 Balm as moisturiser, just a pea size
- 2-3x Biologique Recherche P50W exfoliation on the t-zone only
- UFO2 for when my skin is dehydrated
- 2-3x Sachi Skin Ursolic Acid and Retinal Overnight Reform
- 1-2x NIOD Flavanone Mud clay mask
What is your favourite FOREO device?
Probably the BEAR! Because I get a lot of pain and headaches related to facial muscle tension, and it helps to resolve that super quickly as it lifts. It’s literally 3 minutes per day. So easy.As a brand, we believe in skin confidence, not skin perfection. We know this is something you’re also passionate about. Are there any particular routines, rituals or products that you can attribute to you feeling more confident in the skin you're in?
"The first thing is rethinking my approach – I try to be mindful of always giving back to my skin rather than taking from it, and with each skincare step I ask myself whether it’s giving or taking away. Having my eyebrows done helps immensely, too, it pulls my whole face together and makes everything else seem sort of trivial in comparison."We’re putting the spotlight on beauty-tech and how technology can help get more out of our skin care. What has been your experience with this new-ish beauty category so far? What would you say to anyone on the fence/sceptical of trying skin tech devices?
"I’m working on a writing piece about at-home skincare tech right now! In my experience, it’s a brilliant middle ground between professional facial services and regular at-home skincare, in terms of technology and results. My advice is always the same – if you can see yourself using it 3+ times per week, you’ll see results that pay for themselves quickly. Also, cleansing brushes are no good. Don’t do that… get the LUNA 3 or LUNA Mini 3 instead. They’re much gentler. Prioritise your skin’s barrier!" Loved our chat with Hannah English? You can find her on Instagram or via her blog.
