Greased Lightning Info: The Quick Story of Conductive Gels

No woman, no zap! The electrifying world of conductive gels attracts ever more interest as microcurrent therapy climbs to the top of the list of popular, at-home treatments for at-home skincare enthusiasts. This non-invasive treatment utilizes low-level electrical currents to stimulate facial muscles, promoting a youthful and refreshed appearance by lifting and toning skin for a facelift effect without the surgeon or cutting into flesh, all in the comfort of home. Incorporating microcurrent devices into your skincare routine is simpler than you think, and the results are worth it, but a dose of fear is always present. And rightly so, as electricity is a formidable beast to the human body. But tamed in a well-designed microcurrent machine, the beast purrs and serves our own purposes with no discomfort, pain, or zaps.

Microcurrent therapy MUST always be used with a conductive medium. Conductive gels and serums come in various textures and forms, but they all have the same role: safely transferring electrical energy into the skin and muscle.

What is Microcurrent Therapy?

In the beginning, there was electricity. There truly was. Large lightning storms 4 billion years ago, that we can still find traces of today trapped in fulgurite - a mineraloid found in electrically active regions, zapped with unbridled power. The first electricity that bombarded the crust of our young, lifeless planet contributed to the formation of an atmosphere and released some of the elements, such as phosphorus, which helped set the foundation for life. A thing that literally jump-started life (this evokes a sort of Dr.Frankenstein vibe, doesn’t it?! - “It’s alieveeee!”) is the same one that can make you poke a power outlet with a fork only once and exactly the same one with therapeutic and rejuvenating benefits if used in a controlled manner as microcurrent facial therapy. Microcurrent facials involve using low-level electrical currents to stimulate facial muscles, toning them, and improving the look of the skin above the muscle. But what does this mean? Simply put, microcurrent goes way deeper, where traditional skincare can’t - the muscle.

The facial musculature is connected directly to your skin. At-home microcurrent devices work by running an electrical current between the positively and negatively charged conducting spheres, which must both be in contact with your skin. While the current flows through the muscles, it trains them to tone up. If you were to see this as a gym workout for your facial muscles, you would not be wrong.

Does Microcurrent Therapy Work?

All who have searched microcurrent before and after know that the answer is yes. Microcurrent devices have been shown to deliver noticeable results. By stimulating skin cells, microcurrent therapy encourages collagen and elastin production while improving microcirculation and oxygen delivery to cells. These benefits contribute to firmer skin, reduced fine lines and wrinkles, and a better overall complexion.

Clinical studies and user testimonials highlight significant skin texture and tone improvements after consistent use.

What Are Conductive Serums?

As explained, while the microcurrent runs between the positively and negatively charged conducting spheres in contact with your skin, the skin needs a conductive serum or gel for the current to flow and do its job rather than zap you and cause discomfort.

This means that without the conductive serum or microcurrent conductive gel, the microcurrent cannot pass through the skin efficiently, which is painful and does not yield the treatment benefits.

Not all gels and serums are conductive. The thing that separates conductive serums from regular non-conductive ones is their formulation. They contain ingredients like glycerin and electrolytes that help the current flow through your skin.

These serums often include skincare ingredients that provide hydration, nourishment, and protection, making them a great addition to your skincare routine.

What an interesting read! It's quite impressive that magnetism and electricity helped form our atmosphere but we hadn't found a way to harness that power until well into the recent past. Microcurrent therapy is also really impressive in its own right, it has been quite helpful for my face yoga routine as a nice boost. Thank you for sharing this interesting article, I've learnt a lot about conductives.
