Coconut oil has been used for centuries as a natural moisturizer and skin softener. It's known for years that this miracle oil has many additional skincare benefits, making it a must-have for any beauty enthusiast's arsenal. So, if you're looking for an all-in-one skincare solution, coconut oil is definitely worth a try!

What is coconut oil?

Coconut oil is a natural oil that has been used since ancient times to nourish hair, skin, face, and body. It is made up of medium-chain fatty acids (MCFAs) which are saturated fats that can be easily metabolized by the body. It is different from the usual cooking oil people use every day because it does not contain any cholesterol, trans-fatty acid, and other harmful substances that may cause harm to your body. Coconut oil has many skincare benefits because it contains antioxidant properties.

Coconut oil for skin

It hydrates your skin

Coconut oil is moisturizing, but not too heavy. It helps restore pH to dry skin.

It protects your skin from sunburn

It can actually help protect your skin from sunburn and other damage due to its antioxidant properties. This is because coconut oil contains vitamin E, which is an effective antioxidant that can protect against free radical damage.

It treats eczema

Coconut oil is a natural moisturizer so it can be helpful in relieving dry skin. It is widely used as a treatment for eczema, especially when combined with vitamin E or lavender oil.

Coconut oil boosts collagen production

If you put coconut oil on your face, it will help you boost collagen production and keep calcium in its original state. That means it can really penetrate deep into your skin layers. Coconut oil helps the skin retain its elasticity and glow because it is a natural anti-aging product that can repair damaged skin cells and rejuvenate your face. This oil has medium-chain fatty acids which are easily absorbed by the body, making it an ideal carrier oil to mix with essential oils for skincare. Coconut oil fights acne

Coconut oil is often used as a traditional medicine to treat acne. It has always been known to have antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial, and antioxidant properties due to which it is used for both cosmetic and medicinal purposes. Coconut oil also can help in improving your complexion and reduce acne scars. But, you have to be careful with it. Namely, coconut oil may not be helpful to people who have oily skin. So, before you start treating acne with coconut oil, check with a dermatologist or other professional.

How to use coconut oil for skincare?

You can use coconut oil directly onto the skin or mix a few drops into your face cream. It is used as a moisturizer, cleanser, and exfoliator due to its moisturizing and antibacterial properties. It aids in the natural hydration of skin leaving it smooth, soft, and supple.

Coconut oil is a great moisturizer

Coconut oil penetrates deep into your skin cells to nourish the skin from within. It is a good choice for those who have dry or dehydrated skin as it helps retain moisture in the epidermis without leaving behind a greasy residue.

It is an effective facial cleanser

Coconut oil is considered an effective facial cleanser that helps to dissolve dirt, sebum, and other impurities without leaving behind any residue on your face. It can remove makeup easily if applied first on dry skin.

Exfoliate your face with coconut oil

Coconut oil is also used by many to remove dead skin cells due to its abrasive texture and it is one of the best organic exfoliators. To exfoliate your face with coconut oil, take a little bit of the oil in the palm of your hand and rub it between both palms to melt it down. Then apply this oil on dry skin avoiding the eye area. Massage it in a circular motion with the tips of your fingers.

How to pick the right coconut oil for your skin?

While you can find plenty of coconut oil products in the market for both cosmetic and medicinal purposes, it is best to pick one that is made up of 100% pure and unrefined coconut oil. You must go for virgin coconut oil over regular coconut oil because regular coconut oil has been bleached and refined with harsh chemicals.

Is coconut oil safe for your face?

Coconut oil is safe to use on your face as it has nourishing and antibacterial properties. However, if you have dry or sensitive skin, it is best to apply the oil only after consulting a dermatologist. Also, before applying coconut oil to your face, go for a patch test to ensure you are not allergic to it.

I am so glad to read this! I live in a very hot climate and use coconut oil every day, on my body and my hair. But for the face, I use rosewater. I would love to read articles about rosewater too!

per dermatologists coconut oil blocks about 20% of damaging sunrays. that's pretty good for a natural substance )) Of course I use sunscreen. sunrays are so strong now, but I absolutely love moisturizing my skin with coconut oil. Love the smell of it. your coconut ufo mask is so so good, was really helpful during winter months.
