Taking Care of the Planet, Taking Care of Yourself

FOREO LUNA 2 silicone brush details cover
Because feeling great shouldn’t cost the earth. We all know that FOREO’s game-changing beauty tech devices help get you feeling and looking your best. But there’s another very good reason to incorporate the Swedish brand’s skin-saving facial cleansers and innovative toothbrushes into your routine: the environment. All made from long-lasting ultra-hygienic silicone, not only do they outlast traditional alternatives, they also help minimize waste. Read on to find out how…

The Truth About Toothbrushes

FOREO ISSA2 toothbrush on towel in batroom In the US, more than 20,000 tonnes of toothbrushes end up in landfill every single year. It’s a dizzying amount, but not altogether surprising: on average, we go through four to five manual polypropylene plastic and nylon brushes annually. That quickly adds up! And while electric models are certainly better because you’re generally only replacing the head and not the entire device, their manufacturing makes them difficult to recycle. FOREO’s ISSA range is different: made from durable - not to mention ultra-hygienic - silicone, brush heads last a full six months before needing to be replaced. They also use considerably less energy than conventional models, with a single charge seeing the impressive ISSA 2 through a whopping 365 days of use. Now that’s something to smile about!

Brush Up Your Skincare Routine

Keeping skin healthy and clean matters. But how you wash your face can make a big difference to everything from how much waste we generate, to how much water we use. Take facial cleansing wipes: although undeniably convenient, their disposal is nothing if not problematic. Quite simply, the majority of single-use wipes should categorically not be flushed down the toilet! Despite this, on the banks of the River Thames in London earlier this year, a staggering 5,453 wipes of various types were recovered from an area roughly the size of a tennis court - precisely because people are flushing! Chucking them in the trash isn’t much better - because most are made from non-biodegradable materials, they take literally years to break down in landfill. FOREO LUNA 2 facial brushes range in all colors in the bathroom Compare to the LUNA line of facial cleansers: not only do they require zero replacement brush heads - ever - their silicone material also means they’re built to last (hello, 10-year quality guarantee!). Better yet, they’ve actually been shown to boost skin’s absorption of other skincare products - meaning you buy less, generate less waste, and by extension, reduce your environmental footprint. Hoorah!

Tips for a Cleaner, Greener Shave

If you think cleaning up the environmental impact of your morning shave is as simple as ditching disposable razors, then you’re only partly right. It’s estimated that in the US alone, around 2 billion disposable razors get thrown away every single year. Switching to a reusable model is an easy way to minimize this waste. What that doesn’t address, however, is the tricky question of not just blades, but also the cartridges in which they’re packaged. FOREO LUNA for MEN and black ISSA 2 electric toothbrush in black bathroomIntroducing LUNA 2 for MEN: much more than just a facial cleansing brush, it does a great job of prepping the skin for a cleaner, closer shave. When used before shaving, it’s been shown to retain razor blades’ sharpness for up to twice as long. That adds up to not only considerably less waste, but also significant savings for you. In other words: Win win!

Get a Greener Glow

Safeguarding our environment begins at home, and there are plenty of steps every single one of us can take to minimize our eco-footprint. As these simple switches show, looking great and feeling fantastic needn’t cost the earth!

We recommend that you visit your local electronics recycling center. Most electronic waste facilities will gladly accept and recycle FOREO devices.

If your local electronics recycling center will not take the FOREO device as a whole unit, then you can very simply take it apart to properly dispose of the individual pieces.

Hi Jess, We currently do not have a recycling service at the moment so we recommend that you recycle all your products in accordance to your countries regulations. I hope this helps :)

You provide no messaging on the packaging about how to dismantle and recycle heads or the body. And by not having a closed loop recycling strategy of your own, all the messaging suggesting you are environmentally astute seems to fall down.
It’s a real shame, because this is just a good product with clever marketing, but no environmental ethos driving the company decisions.
